Well, hey guys. It's me again.
Anyway, I know you guys have been waiting for the art, and it'll go up soon (promise!) and I appreciate it if you guys have been waiting a long time.
But anyway, now it's time for a PSA. No, not with drugs or sex, but with something entirely different: rock n' roll. Specifically, metal.
I came upon an artwork just now, and I have to say, sometimes it bothers (or all the time) when people have a misconception about metal fans and the music.
No, I'm not going to bite your head off or rant about Ke$ha or some shit like that. Anyway, heavy metal isn't always this or
this. Yes, there are some metal bands that are really chaotic and some that are really narmy, but that doesn't mean you have to generalize the entire genre (which is a really big genre) of metal.
For one thing, a lot of people seem to believe that metal fans have an 'elitist' or hostile attitude towards other genres of music, or even other metal subgenres. That's not true. Yes, metalheads are picky, but that doesn't mean they jump to the conclusion that just because they don't like it, it means it's 'not metal' or 'hardcore' enough. If people do have that attitude towards something you like, then chances are they don't like a lot of things or they don't really pay attention to what music's about. Also, you can't really rate which genres are 'heavier' than others. Gothic metal can be extremely heavy, for one thing. I know most people mention Evanesence when they mention Gothic music, well, fine, that's cool. Last time I checked, however, not every single Gothic band sounds exactly like Evanesence.
I can't think of any genre of music where every band sounds exactly the same. If they did all sound exactly the same, then no one would listen to it because it's the same tedious thing over and over again. I know this happens a lot with metal, but looking up pages on wikipedia instead of actually hearing the music isn't a very good assumption. In fact, it's a generalization.
Here's a comparison. I'll rank it from melodic to more chaotic:
Classic Metal: Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N' Roses.
Gothic Metal: Bye Bye Beautiful by Nightwish.
Progressive Metal: Forsaken by Dream Theater.
Nu Metal: Tempest by Deftones.
Deathcore: Shadow Moses by Bring Me The Horizon.
And, finally, (because a lot of people have a ton of misconceptions with this genre, I'll put three videos) Death Metal.
Business Suits and Combat Boots by The Agonist.
Burden by Opeth
My Apocalypse by Arch Enemy
Yeah, long story short: Don't judge a book by its cover. If you disliked any of music or want to debate on this topic, be as assertive and polite as possible. Don't flame or anything like that.
So yeah, that's all I have to say. Toodles.
